How we can use media to get the younger generation to become politicians?

The media is very powerful. It can give people thoughts on things, different impressions on how to look and more. The media can be used for so much more than just celebrities and fakes. We can use this to help the world change and to send a message to our younger generation about not being afraid to be a leader or a politician. The use of “social media” is used more often today than ever. This is one way we can teach the young women of today to strive to be a politician. Instead of criticising our existing politicians, the media such as magazines and newspaper, should talk about the positive achievements that our politicians have made because then young women will see what people are saying about our politicians and then it may encourage them to become one when they are older. The only way that our generation will want to become a leader, is if we show it repetitively and send the message that will make young women want to strive to be a politician. We should stop front covers about Kim Kardashian’s skin surgery and replace it with the title “Female Politicians.”

Explore the ways in which women are presented in a less limited and stereotypical way using specific examples

Although women are portrayed negatively through the media, there are some positives. Women that have made a stand in our world or have done something good to help themselves or others. These people represent the real women of our world and not the fake. Some movie actors, television show characters and celebrities can have a positive and influencing effect on the audience they are performing for. One character that is viewed by many and has changed the way of thinking is “Lisa Simpson.” Although she has an unusual family, Lisa is an independent girl who strives to work hard and wishes to become president. She is great academically, she can play the saxaphone and does great deeds. This character has a positive effect on the audience and replicates how young women should be. Lisa thinks for herself, and sticks to her ideals, things that young women should really be influenced by on the media. Another woman that isn’t a stereotypical kind of woman, is Oprah Winfrey. Known as talk show queen, she is also a kind hearted role model. She does all she can to help those less fortunate than she is. She has a positive mind and is great at both entertaining and influencing for women of all ages.

Miss Representation

The film "Miss Representation," talks about the stereotypical vision, that is given through the media. The statistics shown in this film talks about how girls want to be president, and you ask them when they’re older, the gap emerges because the media changes the way of thinking of our children today. From a very tender age, girls feel the need to be better than everyone else and look like their aspired role model, because it’s almost like you’re different because you’re being YOU! The film indicates that “it’s all about the body and not about the brain” because the media persuades the audience into focusing on the body of celebrities and not the brains of women. If little girls are driven by the media, then we won’t move forward and change the image of women. The media is very dangerous for the reason that it is like the brain of our people and controls the way people see women, when actually women can be big, thin, tall, short, dark and light skinned but we don’t ever see the real women of our world, we are always faced with the fake celebrities of the media. Women are limited because of misrepresentation.
